Chapter 33 — The Campus God Who Spat Blood (7) | The Heroine Really Wants to Cry
That weekend’s basketball game turned into Xing Ge’s personal stage. Her ball control was ridiculous, and every shot sank like it had a homing device.
The girls were seconds away from losing their minds and screaming.
When she came off the court she was drenched. Summer-solstice sunlight poured through the skylights as the youth lifted the hem of the jersey to wipe her sweat, and the tight cut of her waistline showed clean as a sketch.
Cheng Rui clicked his tongue. “You built abs in this short a time? You little punk are no joke.” He even reached out to check.
Look at that. Their iron bro was asking for a beating again.
Xu Jianyuan glanced over, then went back to enjoying his girlfriend’s doting attention. This fire would not spread to him anyway. Heh heh. Who told Cheng Rui to call him a big dumb ox all day. Think you are so smart, do you?
Chen Xi watched in silence. When A University won and the organizer bounced over, he proposed a mixed extra match. Opponents would be assigned by drawing lots.
Cheng Rui and Xu Jianyuan landed on one team. Across from them, leading the other side, was Chen Xi.
Backstage, Chen Xi pulled off his shirt and changed into a searing red jersey. The usually frosty campus god tossed Cheng Rui a honeyed little smile while he was at it.
Cheng Rui: “???”
Terrifying. What just happened?
Out in the gym there was a heartbeat of silence, then thunderous applause.
A legend stepped onto the court, and he was teamed up with newcomer Xing Ge. The stadium exploded. Flags waved and the shouting nearly lifted the roof. Security uncles hurried in to stand by, afraid of a stampede.
Then Cheng Rui experienced the darkest day of his life.
Chen Xi wrecked him from start to finish.
Steals, blocks, bodying up from every angle, a full 360 degrees of denial.
He did not score a single point.
Cheng Rui: Do not stop me. Life is meaningless. I am going to jump off something to calm down.
During the break, the heroine Feng Qianqian came over to offer encouragement.
Her squad of girlfriends arrived too.
Xing Ge looked at the tall beauty with hopeful puppy eyes, angling for a little praise. The beauty opened her mouth to speak, then glanced at the refined boy standing beside them. Cold light flashed in his eyes. She silently, very silently, stepped to the back of the group.
“Um, the way you shot just now was really, really cool!”
Feng Qianqian pressed a hand over her pounding little heart. For a second, she almost blurted out to Chen Xi that she was his silly, dopey little apprentice in-game.
Teacher-student romance. Just thinking of it made her blush. Feng Qianqian swooned inwardly.
“It was fine,” Chen Xi said mildly.
“You are sweating a lot. If you do not mind, please use this.” The girl’s face went pink as she offered the towel she had prepared.
The players around them whooped and catcalled.
Chen Xi reached out his hand.
Feng Qianqian’s eyes went wide with joy.
Then his hand took a turn and grabbed Xing Ge by the back of the collar. Caught off guard, she stumbled and fell straight into Chen Xi’s chest.
Heroine: “!!!”
Xing Ge: “???”
“If you do not stay by my side, where exactly are you going?” His voice was light, giving nothing away.
Now bull’s-eyed by everyone, Xing Ge straightened and rubbed her nose, embarrassed. Of course she had been trying to slip over to build rapport with the beauty, maybe even level up their revolutionary friendship. She had barely moved her feet when she was hauled back on the spot. Tragic.
The system was about to crash. “Does the male lead live by the sea or what? Why is he minding every wave? Did you eat his family’s rice or dig up his ancestors?”
Fortunately, Chen Xi left her a little dignity. He did not press. He simply lifted the towel around her neck and used it to wipe his sweat.
“I already used that…” Xing Ge hesitated. Lately the male lead loved using her things, from laundry detergent and body wash all the way down to nail clippers and towels.
Xing Ge was confused. Were her things really better than everyone else’s? She just grabbed them off a supermarket shelf.
“Do you mind?” He raised a brow.
“I do not, I was just afraid you would.” The old fox lied smoothly.
“I do not.”
“…”
Then there was nothing more to say.
“Help me with the back. I cannot reach.”
“Okay…”
Big boss, you really are treating me like an underling. Xing Ge rolled her eyes, resigned, lifted the jersey and wiped several strokes across his back.
The guys took it in stride.
The heroine stared, dumbfounded. This was the wrong script.
Godly Master, I am supposed to be your pampered little apprentice.
Team Female Lead was not taking this lying down. She had to squeeze in one more presence check before the break ended.
The whistle blew. Players were returning to position.
“Senior, do your best! I will be cheering for you.” Feng Qianqian flashed a sweet smile and took a few steps forward. Her left foot betrayed her and landed on her right. She pitched forward.
Here it was. The classic scene.
The male lead stood right in front of her.
Once-in-a-lifetime chance.
Xing Ge watched with keen interest like a scholar, fascinated. So this was the fabled heroine-only flat fall, the peerless move that sends you flying into the male lead’s arms no matter if you tumble sideways or sail through the air.
“Ah!”
The girl cried out like a startled fawn.
Black hair fanned in midair.
A scarlet hem flared in a neat little circle.
The crowd wore synchronized looks of shock.
It was perfect, like a panel in a comic.
Xing Ge thought, how strange. Why can I never fall in such a graceful, fragile pose? Have I not learned the essence yet?
Yes, I should practice. If I transmigrate into a woman one day, it will be handy to have a signature skill.
“What happened to your mouth? You are bleeding again. Did you forget to use the lip balm I gave you?” Chen Xi suddenly turned back and brushed her lip with a thumb.
Thump.
The heroine face-planted.
Nose to floor. Cheeks first.
A sad, sad tale.
Xing Ge: “…” System bro, are you sure this one is the heroine?
The system was very calm. “Even a good horse stumbles. The heroine probably left her halo at home today. Have a little compassion. Doing the heroine job is not easy.”
The heroine wanted to cry.
Where was the promised petting and pampering from the great god?
Had she walked onto the wrong set, the wrong movie, or the wrong universe?
