DLOBML CHAPTER 35

Chapter 35 — The Campus God Who Spat Blood (9) | The Male Lead’s Daily Habit of Poaching My Crush

When gods fight, bystanders suffer.

No one in the guild dared speak. Even the loudmouths with nerves of steel could tell something was off.

Xing Ge was so frustrated she wanted to claw the wall.

“…What the heck is the male lead doing? Did I offend him or what? I am just trying to chase a girl and he keeps acting all weird about it. He was not like this before!”

The system said profoundly, “Actually, there's jealousy in the world of friendship too. That feeling is no less intense than romantic jealousy.”

Xing Ge: “…”

Good grief. Whenever this snarky system becomes serious, the whole world starts to feel like fantasy.

She rubbed at her goosebumps and decided to ignore the male lead’s periodic brain glitches. She opened her friends list and sent Yu Feiyan a private message, sincerely inviting her to run Ghost King Tower together.

Ghost King Tower was known as the number one haunted map. Desolate, eerie, ghosts at every turn. It could scare you into a cold sweat at high noon.

Someone once joked that if you want to court a girl, ask her to push the tower with you. It is the perfect chance to display boyfriend power. Same logic as inviting her to a horror movie.

So the spooky tower had become a “dating holy land” for countless boys and girls.

Xing Ge waited and waited. At last a reply came.

She clicked it open.

“Sorry, Evil Lord. I already have plans with someone!”

“Oh, no problem. Maybe next time!”

A touch disappointed, Xing Ge still kept her gentleman act intact.

However…

While she was wandering the tower alone, she turned a corner and ran straight into Yu Feiyan and Circle A Prison.

Circle A Prison’s avatar was a refined scholar in white, his robes snowy and elegant, features delicate, a red-tasseled jade-bone fan in hand. He truly moved like a startled swan or a swimming dragon.

The female blade-wielder stood at his side with her long knife. They looked perfect together.

Xing Ge: “!!!”

I f—!

Ahhh, the male lead, that little b*tch, actually poached her target! And he had the nerve to claim he saw her as a brother.

An aunt can bear it, but an uncle cannot.

She went berserk on the spot, tapped his avatar, and flipped on PK mode.

She pounded them until he dropped several levels in a row.

Circle A Prison fell from number one on the Deity Rankings to outside the top ten.

The placid server boiled over. The entire chat filled with alerts that the first-ranked god was spiraling down.

Xing Ge logged off.

At noon, Chen Xi came back with his laptop, and he brought Xing Ge her favorite sweet-and-sour pork over rice. That dish was so popular the cafeteria line usually stretched forever. He unknotted the plastic bag, calmly washed a pair of chopsticks, and placed them on her desk like nothing had happened.

Humph. Playing the virtuous wife now?

Does he think he can buy her off like this?

She had dignity too, thank you very much. ╭(╯^╰)╮

Xing Ge ignored him, grabbed a jacket, and headed downstairs to eat. As she walked, her heart bled. Her sweet-and-sour pork…

The stiff, chilly air lasted three days. The dorm lived under a low-pressure system. Xu Jianyuan, crafty man that he was, simply took his girlfriend on a trip. Cheng Rui was stuck in the middle like the cream in a sandwich cookie, pleasing no one inside or out.

He missed the days when the two were on good terms. He could copy the top student’s notes at will. Class felt safe. The dorm was stocked with imported snacks and fruit. If he got hungry, he would wander over to the youngest’s side and freeload a deluxe meal. The boss also loved buying clothes for Xing Ge. If something caught his eye outside, he bought it. If it did not fit once they got back, he tossed it to the two roommates. Not a bit went to waste.

Never mind the treasured youngest; within a month even Cheng Rui had been fed to a rosy glow.

Now he was mentally exhausted and looked like a displaced refugee.

Silent treatment is terrifying.

He quietly made a plan to get the two of them back together.

So one day, braving Chen Xi’s dangerous stare, Cheng Rui invited Xing Ge out for a feast.

During the meal he started and stopped a dozen times, twisting like a demure daughter-in-law. Xing Ge finally lost patience.

Her chopsticks snapped down with a crisp tap. “If you have something to say, say it. If you have gas, let it go.”

Cheng Rui hemmed and hawed. “It is probably a misunderstanding. The boss did not mean to steal your girl.” His eyes drifted up and to the left.

“What?”

Then he launched into a long spiel. That bold-looking female blade, he said, had a very messy private life. She came to the game to fish for suckers and had several boats going at once. To be fair, she was very pretty in real life, so the guys were willing fools.

“The boss was afraid you would get conned. He wanted to tell you, but he thought you are young and would push back if he lectured you. So he decided to use himself as bait so Yu Feiyan would leave you alone…” He delivered it with saintly sincerity, practically canonizing Chen Xi on the spot.

He almost moved himself to tears.

Xing Ge was baffled.

So the male lead poached her wall for her own good?

That plot twist was sour and sweet enough to hurt.

Right in the feels, bro.

After thinking it over, she decided she should apologize. But she was also nervous. Deep down she believed Chen Xi was not easy to approach.

“Do you think if I admit I was wrong, Chen Xi will forgive me?” she asked, hesitant.

“He will, he will. The boss will definitely forgive you!” Cheng Rui was overjoyed. He had finally talked her around.

“Fine. Then how do I cheer him up?” Xing Ge asked humbly.

“Uh… that is tricky.” This actually stumped him. The boss was a high-cold campus god, the abstinent top student, a single look from him could spark galaxies of wisdom. He did seem hard to handle. But faced with those bright, expectant eyes, Cheng Rui could not say he did not know. He papered it over with the tricks he used on girls.

“Men love to say the opposite of what they mean. If he says he is fine, he is not. If he says he does not want it, he does. If he says he hates you, obviously he likes you. Ever heard the saying that an icy beauty fears the persistent suitor? It fits a repressed guy like the boss. Just use the ultimate move called ‘shameless persistence conquers the world’ and pester him to death!”

Xing Ge bowed in awe. “Disciple has learned.”

And that was how the unscrupulous roommate sold out Chen Xi and accidentally set up a romance-idiot like Xing Ge.

He cautioned her nervously again and again. “Yingzi, do not tell anyone about Yu Feiyan. The boss told me not to talk. I am risking beheading to confess to you. If he finds out I blabbed, he will never let me live.”

What if they confronted each other and he got exposed?

“Got it, got it. Relax, I will not say a word.” Xing Ge was genuinely touched. For all his peacock tendencies, this guy came through in the clutch. Unlike a certain worthless system that always crashed dead when she needed advice. What f***ing use was it?

After dinner they headed back to the dorm.

Chen Xi sat at his desk reading.

His short black hair fell neatly along his cheek. He lowered his lashes and those unfairly long lashes fluttered like they were breathing. He seemed to hear the door. His jaw tilted down and he glanced over. The glassy pupils held no ripple at all.

Cold to the bone.

He looked at her like he was looking at a corpse.

There was a sharp clap as he closed the book. Xing Ge caught the title with a quick eye. Six blood-red characters: A Popular History of Ancient Torture Devices.

Mom, I am scared.

Is it too late to run?
