Chapter 39 — The Campus God Who Spat Blood (13) | Someone Is About to Die a Miserable Death, Daily
The cannon-fodder system risked being noticed by the male lead to ping Xing Ge, whispering, “Xing Ge, do you not think the male lead is acting weird?”
Chen Xi’s public image was the unapproachable flower on a high cliff, plus he was a super scholar. By all logic he should be cool-headed. Which was exactly why the system was scared, in front of a high-IQ, high-EQ genius, you could die without even knowing how it happened.
Especially since both it and Xing Ge were a pair of lovable idiots.
Although, the system liked to believe it was a tiny bit smarter than Xing Ge, because this fool still had no idea what was going on.
“What is weird about it?” said the fool, biting her popsicle without a care. “He is my bro. He treats me great. You know that.”
System →_→: That is exactly why I am terrified. This is not treating you like a bro. He is basically raising you like a little husband. Ahem, wait, did I just say something dangerous? Delete that.
“Anyway, I think you should hurry and find a girlfriend,” it pivoted smoothly. “Did you not save a girl in the game a few days ago? She seemed very nice. Based on my experience, she is definitely a great beauty.”
The system was talking about a girl Xing Ge met in the MMO. During a boss fight, Xing Ge helped her out, they added each other, and the girl turned out to be quiet, logical, and considerate.
To boost Xing Ge’s confidence, the system even bragged, “Relax, I used some… special methods to measure your compatibility. It is a whopping ninety-eight percent!”
Xing Ge thought, does that metric even exist?
Given the system’s recent string of failures, her trust level had dropped hard. But it sounded so sincere that she decided to give it one more chance.
Xing Ge gobbled down several dating handbooks the system recommended, then launched a full-on campaign in the game.
As luck would have it, the girl played a blade-wielder and was a member of Dragon King Guild.
Xing Ge secretly rejoiced. Good thing she had left those guys at least a pair of underpants last time they fought.
Better yet, the twenty-four-seven shadowing male lead had been dispatched by the Old Demon King to another city for something “important.” Which meant she finally had time to flirt freely.
So Xing Ge started declaring her feelings in world chat, showering gifts, and checking in morning and night. Before long she became the devoted god every girl wanted to marry.
The girl seemed touched too. They watched stars and moon together, drifted from poetry and songs to life and philosophy, did all the silly, romantic little things couples do. Success felt within reach.
Her roommate on the sidelines looked uneasy.
“Yingzi, did you tell the boss about this?”
He felt things were going a little too smoothly, which did not match the usual plot logic. The boss kept such a tight watch, and he treated Xing Ge like his personal property. If Xing Ge really got a girlfriend, could there be no reaction at all?
Cheng Rui would never forget that day, that month, that year, and the way a certain someone smiled as he burned a whole box of love letters girls had written to Xing Ge. Do not ask him how he saw it. He would prefer not to die an ugly death.
He shivered. He could already picture Xing Ge’s tragic future.
But our certain someone felt none of this. She was basking in the glow of imminent victory. “See that, Number Two? She agreed to meet me in real life! I have decided I am confessing that day!”
Cheng Rui fell off his chair and landed on his butt. “You are kidding. That fast?”
Should he report to the boss, report to the boss, or report to the boss?
The system, meanwhile, was wildly supportive and poured on the praise. “Oh, Xing Ge, you are off-the-charts handsome today. So manly, so charming. I might get bent for you!”
Xing Ge looked disgusted. “You gender-confused gremlin, stay away from me.”
System: “Sob sob, you are so heartless, so cold, so unreasonable!”
It was not that Xing Ge had zero doubts. It was just that the girl called “Song Ends Among Blossoms” seemed tailor-made for her: steady, gracious, incredibly attentive and affectionate. Xing Ge never had to say what she liked or disliked; the girl already knew and got it right every time. It was moving in all the right ways.
What really tipped her decision, though, was that they both loved cilantro and scallions, and both hated carrots.
System: And what does cilantro and scallions have to do with confessing?
Xing Ge sighed like a philosopher. That is why you still cannot find a partner.
System: …
For Xing Ge, whether it was true love or not, being with this girl felt easy and comfortable. That was exactly the kind of girlfriend she wanted.
When a meat pie drops right in front of you, are you not going to eat it?
Still, after the last disaster, she decided to make the useless system earn its keep as a scout.
“You want me to hack the girl’s computer at night?” The system acted proud. “I am a principled system!”
Xing Ge: “…”
The system declared righteously, “If we hack, we hack in broad daylight. We hack openly. We hack so clean they have nothing to say.”
Xing Ge fainted.
After expending the strength of an ancient flood beast, the system finally shrieked with excitement sometime past her twentieth yawn. “Holy Sh***, Xing Ge, you are rich. You just picked up a goddess for free!”
Sleep fled her entirely. She was about to ask for a photo download straight to her brain when the system added, in a strange tone, “But I do not think your chances are very high.”
“Why?” She bristled. A baby face still has personal charm, okay?
“Because the girl’s surname is Chen, given name Yu.”
It offered a sympathetic add-on. “Funny coincidence. She is the male lead’s younger sister.”
Xing Ge: I have a big F*** to say, but I do not know if I should say it.
She lay around in sorrow for several days.
When she logged in again, the girl’s voice message was waiting. Was she sick? Did something happen? Did she need help? The concern was so gentle.
So Xing Ge made up her mind.
To hell with it.
If she showed enough sincerity, surely Chen Xi would approve, right? They were brothers after all. He would prefer to hand his sister to someone he knew and trusted, right?
Cheng Rui was still debating whether to report to higher authorities when Xing Ge had already packed up and asked her advisor for leave, righteously writing her reason as: “to resolve a lifelong matter.”
The future wife lived a bit far away. Xing Ge rode the train for a whole day until her butt went numb. She also discreetly checked Chen Xi’s movements; he happened to be at home for the next few days.
Oh my god, oh my god.
Confessing right in front of the future big brother-in-law?
Was she going to be drawn and quartered?
IsitRo: Honestly, I could give my face monkey red butts multiple times, I feel like I know where this is going 😿😿😿
