DLOBML CHAPTER 7
Chapter 7 — F*** Your Abusive Romance (5) | The Male Lead’s Daily Routine: Getting Cuckolded
“Fine, we’ll do as you say,” Mrs. Chen sighed. Her son was too softhearted for his own good. In her opinion, women who deceived their husbands didn’t deserve sympathy in the slightest.
The rest of the day, Xing Ge led the groomsmen in cleaning up the aftermath of the disastrous wedding. The guests, having witnessed enough drama for one lifetime, decided not to make things worse for the gentle and polite Chen Feng. Everyone left on decent terms; much better than how it had gone in the original storyline.
Lin Qiang, knowing he had no ground to stand on, quietly slipped away in the chaos. He decided he’d come back for Meng Hui once things settled down.
The next morning, Meng Hui woke up in a modest guest room, not the lavishly decorated bridal suite she had designed with her own hands.
“You’re awake?”
Mrs. Chen stood by the doorway, her expression cold. “Come down for breakfast.”
Meng Hui’s heart twisted as memories of Wei Yue’s icy face from the day before flashed through her mind. Now, even her mother-in-law was treating her this way. Tears welled up instantly.
Mrs. Chen’s anger toward this deceitful woman hadn’t faded. She’d only held herself back because her son had insisted on it, arguing with a pregnant woman wasn’t worth risking her own health. But now, seeing Meng Hui sitting there, pitiful and teary-eyed, only made her more irritated.
“Well, well,” Mrs. Chen sneered, “what’s with that pitiful face? Did I bully you somehow?”
Meng Hui quickly wiped her tears with her sleeve, forcing a weak smile. “Mom, I…”
That one word made Mrs. Chen explode. She pointed accusingly. “Don’t call me mom! I don’t have such a shameless daughter-in-law!”
Meng Hui’s face tightened. The wedding was already over, what more did this woman want from her? She opened her mouth to retort, but Mrs. Chen beat her to it, her tone dripping with mockery.
“Calling me mom when you don’t even know who the father of your baby is. Aren’t you embarrassed?”
The biggest secret she’d worked so hard to hide was laid bare. Meng Hui froze, her mind blank. She forced herself to stay calm and smiled stiffly. “Mom, what nonsense are you saying? What baby? There’s no such thing.”
Then, feigning bashful innocence, she added, “Please don’t worry, I’ll do my best to take care of Ah Feng.”
Mrs. Chen was shaking with rage. Just as she was about to lash out again, Xing Ge appeared at the top of the stairs. She caught Mrs. Chen by the arm and said calmly, “Mom, don’t waste your energy on her. Getting angry will only hurt your health. If you don’t want to deal with her, just ignore her. Let’s go eat, okay?”
Mrs. Chen’s breathing eased. She glared at Meng Hui one last time before patting her son’s cheek affectionately. “Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you. Go get changed and come down. I made soup for you.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
Once Mrs. Chen left, Xing Ge turned her gaze on Meng Hui. Her tone was cool, her eyes sharper than ice. “Meng Hui, you’re twenty-seven years old, more than old enough to tell right from wrong. So let me make this clear.”
Meng Hui instinctively shrank back. The way he loosened his tie and rolled his sleeves looked lazy yet dangerous, his handsomeness laced with an edge of frost.
“Everyone already knows the baby in your belly isn’t mine,” he said evenly. “The wedding was a farce, ruined by your lies. I only brought you here out of pity because you’re pregnant. Once the baby is born, I expect you to leave and go wherever you belong.
But if you plan to keep upsetting my parents, then I’m sorry, you can leave right now. This house isn’t big enough to host your drama.”
Meng Hui trembled. Everyone knows? Her carefully guarded secret, exposed to the entire world?
Seeing her dazed look, Xing Ge added helpfully, “You fainted at the ceremony, remember? My private doctor examined you, in front of everyone.”
The look on the heroine’s face was a rainbow of panic and despair, like someone had shaken a painter’s palette.
“Oh, and that thug friend of yours tried to take you to the hospital,” Xing Ge added. “If I hadn’t stopped him, who knows how long you would’ve kept your little secret.”
Seeing her on the verge of falling apart, he asked another question, his tone deceptively mild. “Meng Hui, there’s something I don’t understand. Why were you so sure I’d marry you in the first place? Even Mu Qing didn’t know I once liked you, so how did you find out? How did you know I’d stayed single because of you?”
Maybe, he thought, Chen Feng had been wrong all along, maybe she wasn’t as “innocent” as she seemed.
He didn’t wait for her answer. Turning on his heel, he left the room without another glance.
Meng Hui stayed, but no longer as “Mrs. Chen.” Without that title, her days were far less glamorous than in the original story, yet compared to her past, this was still an upgrade.
One morning, the family was having breakfast when Meng Hui slipped quietly into a corner seat, lowering her head. Her status in the Chen household had plummeted. She didn’t dare show the slightest temper without Chen Feng’s protection.
The housekeeper came rushing in, flustered. “Madam! There are people yelling outside!”
Mrs. Chen frowned. “What now?” She stood up to take a look, only to be shoved back inside moments later by a noisy crowd.
Meng Hui dropped her chopsticks, eyes lighting up. “Dad! Mom! Auntie! You’re here!” She thought, foolishly, that Chen Feng must have invited them over to comfort her.
Her younger aunt squealed the moment she saw her, running up to hug her like she was a long-lost daughter. “Oh, Xiao Hui! We finally found you!” Her gaze darted to the dining table, the fine china, the spread of expensive dishes, and her mind began to churn. She had to find a way to stay here.
“Auntie!” Meng Hui gasped, overwhelmed. Her aunt was a loud, fiery woman who’d never been this affectionate before.
The Meng family reunion was all smiles on the surface, but each of them was already calculating how to milk this situation dry. Watching it all, Xing Ge gave a faint smile and gently helped the shocked Mrs. Chen back to her seat. The poor woman, used to being treated like a queen, had no idea how to handle this rowdy pack of relatives, her manicured hands already bore red marks from their “enthusiastic” greetings.
Mr. Chen, still furious about the sham marriage, couldn’t hold back any longer after seeing the unruly Meng family. “What is the meaning of this? Do you think our house is a public market?!”
Meng Hui’s mother, dazzled by the Chen family’s luxurious home, quickly pasted on a fawning smile. “Oh, in-law, don’t be angry! We just missed Xiao Hui, that’s all. You young people, honestly, holding a wedding without even notifying us! My poor daughter was still a pure, unmarried girl, and you just rushed things along! How could that be proper?”
As she spoke, she shot Xing Ge a disapproving look, as if he were the one lacking manners.
Then she turned and yelled at her husband. “Old man, bring in the stuff! We’ll eat here!”
Mrs. Chen felt a surge of dread. A moment later, the old man came staggering in with several bags full of blankets, pots, and pans.
Her face turned black. “You… you’re planning to live here?”
“Of course!” Mrs. Meng said cheerfully. “Our daughter lives here, doesn’t she? Where else are we supposed to go, sleep on the streets? Don’t worry, in-law, we’re simple folks. Just a place to sleep is enough.”
The sheer audacity almost made Mrs. Chen faint. She turned and glared daggers at Meng Hui, this woman had turned her household upside down!
“Son…” she whispered helplessly. In the end, she could only rely on him.
Xing Ge calmly dabbed the corner of her mouth with a napkin and looked up, voice cool and steady.
“Are you all done making a scene?”
The entire room went silent.
Mrs. Meng shuffled her plump body forward with a forced grin. “Ah, son-in-law…”
“Mrs. Meng,” Xing Ge interrupted, voice like ice, “if you’re done, please take your family and leave.”
Not a shred of courtesy. Not a trace of warmth.
Meng Hui’s face paled. She knew very well that the only one with real authority in this house was Chen Feng. Gritting her teeth, she hurried to his side and lowered her voice sweetly.
“Ah Feng, we were college classmates. Please, just let my parents and aunt stay for a little while. I’ll… I’ll repay you someday. I promise.”
Her lips trembled, eyes shining with a practiced hint of seduction.
Oh, for f**’s sake,* Xing Ge thought. Is she seriously trying to flirt right now?
